"Ricky” was confiscated by Officer Mike Boyd by a Huntsville citizen in mid-September. “Ricky” was still alive, but horribly underweight tied on a chain. Another dog laid deceased, starved to death, on a chain close by. “Ricky” came to our shelter weighing less than 30 pounds with serious skin infection – both fungal and bacterial – and hair loss.
The court case was begun with our municipal court to prosecute the owner and to acquire ownership of “Ricky.”
“Ricky” was kenneled and cared for by our Animal Care team. “Ricky” ate well and began to gain weight. His weekly medicated baths and oral antibiotics helped resolve his skin problems. “Ricky” was diagnosed with heartworms and was begun on a conservative therapy of monthly oral heartworm preventative.
“Ricky” became the property of the City of Huntsville and was adopted by Officer Mike Boyd. “Ricky” is loving being part of a family and the Boyd family is loving that “Ricky” is a part of their lives!
